Purpose
To oversee the stress and scenario testing across the Group to enable effective monitoring of risk exposure and to support strategic decision making.
In particular, to lead on the use of technology to improve the speed and accuracy of stress and scenario testing
To identify and execute management actions and capital solutions to improve the Group’s financial position and/or to reduce volatility
To support the Director of Capital Management in ensuring a strong and stable capital base.
Job Role Accountabilities
- To lead the development of methodologies, tools and processes to ensure the Group can perform robust, flexible and timely stress and scenario testing to monitor risk exposure and support decision making, with a particular focus on the use of technology
- Engagement with key stakeholders across the Group to get buy-in on proposed methodology and processes
- To engage with 2nd line, management and Board to ensure that the scope of stress and scenario testing meets their needs and to communicate the results and conclusions to management
- To identify and execute management actions and/or capital solutions to optimise the balance sheet and to reduce volatility
Examples of Key Activities
- Develop methodology, tools and processes for stress and scenario testing, leveraging new technology for efficiency and scalabiltiy
- Manage key stakeholders across the business that are/will be involved in stress and scenario testing
- Join the Stress and Scenario Testing Forum to contribute to setting the Group’s priorities and to report on progress and results
- Meet with external parties to identify and assess potential capital solutions
- Advise management on emerging risks and potential mitigating actions
- Lead and support group projects that impact the capital position
Skills and Knowledge
- Strong understanding of Solvency II framework, particularly the Solvency UK Matching Adjustment reforms and internal models
- Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
- Good understanding of the products/services provided by the Group, their risks and their capital requirements
- Enthusiastic about leveraging new technologies to drive innovation and efficiency
- Ability to construct frameworks and methodologies by thinking through first principles
- Ability to maintain competence and up-to-date knowledge
- Ability to lead and influence others, and to build collaborative relationships with a range of stakeholders across the business
Experience
- Life industry experience in a Solvency II environment
- Experience in delivery of projects
- Experience in engagement with senior management within both 1st and 2nd line
Qualifications
- Qualified FIA, FFA or equivalent
