Purpose
The Data Governance Manager will be pivotal in executing data stewardship initiatives to drive actionable insights and ensure regulatory compliance. This role is responsible for the development, implementation, and oversight of Just Group’s data governance goals, standards, practices, processes, and technologies. You will lead the execution of data-related projects while serving as the primary gatekeeper for data quality in new analytics initiatives. Additionally, you will assist in translating complex data into valuable insights that inform strategic decision-making across the organization. As the leader of the Data Governance team within the broader Data Team, you will guide and support the team in maintaining high data quality and governance standards.
Key Accountabilities
Define strategic priorities for the development of Data Governance capabilities aligned with Data strategy and Just Group's Data Protection Policy, SII data policy and governance framework
Explain the benefits of Data Governance to business stakeholders and help define and track benefits
Roll out and maintain a Data Governance framework with a focus on:
Building business ownership and accountability for data assets
Establishing stewardship of data
Defining and implementing policies and standards, governance metrics, processes and support the use of related tools
Liaison between business units and supporting services to ensure that data related business requirements are clearly defined, communicated, well understood and considered as part of operational prioritisation and planning
Contribute to the development of Data Management capabilities such as metadata management, data quality management, consent management and data modelling
Support business units in implementing Data Governance
Promote Data Governance tool capabilities to foster responsibilities and control of the data assets lifecycle
Help operationalise regulatory requirements on data assets and proactively provide support on regulatory requirements (data protection, information security, risk management, etc.)
Ensure that Data Governance activities are aligned with Finance requirements for regulatory reporting and support financial controls
Examples of Key Activities
Defining, communicating, and driving the execution of the Data Governance Strategy to ensure data is managed properly, according to policies and best practices
Leading and managing Data Governance activities
Creating and managing the Data Governance framework
Line Management of Data Quality Analyst
Supporting the data team with the implementation and ongoing improvement of the enterprise data platform
Defining and monitoring Just Group’s performance against Data Governance KPIs
Defining and monitoring the benefits from Data Governance
Supporting business units in the creation of data quality improvement plans
Helping to develop training and awareness material for employees
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
Expertise in Data Governance concepts and best practices, with proven experience in senior roles within Data Governance and/or Data Quality area in Financial Services.
A track record of managing large Data Governance programs and enterprise data assets in complex organizations.
Experience in creating and implementing Data Governance frameworks, policies, and performance metrics.
Proficiency in Data Governance & Data Quality systems and tools.
Knowledge of data sources, transformation rules, and stewardship practices.
Familiarity with data catalogues, data quality technologies, and data lineage tools (e.g., Microsoft Purview).
Solid understanding of GDPR, The Data Protection Act 2018, and financial regulations.
Auditing experience and operational awareness of change management.
Knowledge of Data Warehousing, Data Lake, and Big Data solutions (SQL understanding is useful).
Familiarity with Cloud-based frameworks (data lakes, relational, Graph, NoSQL databases).
Awareness of emerging Cloud and Data Management trends and tools (open source, methodologies, commercial vendors).
Proficiency in Microsoft Server technologies (Azure, T-SQL, SSIS, SSRS, Power BI) is desirable.
Understanding of Master Data Management technology and processes.
Strong communication skills with the ability to challenge requirements and drive organizational value.
Adaptability to shifting priorities, ambiguity, and rapid change
Qualification
Bachelor/Master’s degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, Information Management or equivalent experience in a Data Governance/Data Management profession
