Our Actuarial and Underwriting teams research, analyse and report across the business, so we can continue delivering a better later life for our customers.

Our Roles

Actuarial Assistant

Our Actuarial Assistants support our Actuarial team. This could range from developing models and undertaking actuarial analysis, to supporting projects.

Actuarial Analyst

Our Actuarial Analysts help develop and maintain the systems, models, and tools used by the Actuarial Department.

Senior Actuarial Analyst

Our Senior Actuarial Analysts bring problem analysis and resolution skills to the team, and manage smaller defined projects with other stakeholders in the company.

Assistant Actuary

Our Assistant Actuaries identify practical ways of improving actuarial results, finding appropriate solutions, and conveying complex concepts to our managers – helping them make key decisions.

Our Actuaries find practical ways of improving actuarial results. They work alongside our senior managers to help our executive team make key and informed decisions.

Our Underwriters make important business decisions. This includes managing cases outside of our standard lending policy, balancing risks, and guiding brokers in interpreting our lending policy.

Head of Reinsurance and Pricing– London
“I’m passionate about diversity in the workplace. As a risk-based organisation if you don’t have a range of voices at the table, there might be a risk you haven’t considered.”
Actuarial assistant – DB – London
“Our team has been promoting rotations into other business areas to see what other actuarial teams are working on. I went to spend time with the strategic risk team. If you express an interest in a new area, they try to accommodate that.”
Senior Projects Actuary – London
“I’ve been part of lots of interesting changes in my 10 years here, and I’ve been able to change roles. I’m moving into projects, with exposure to reinsurance work which I enjoy, but potentially broader exposure like pricing and demographic risk as well.”
Senior Actuarial Analyst, Defined Benefit – London
“I’ve always had a platform to share my thoughts. It’s quite a relaxed atmosphere, people are very open to help and develop you.”

Difference Makers

Actuarial Mentoring Award Win

As part of our commitment to building a culture of diversity and inclusion, in 2018 we enrolled mentors and mentees into an actuarial mentoring programme, sponsored by the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA).

Learning & Development

We have a strong structure in place to support the professional development of our actuaries. That includes financial support (helping with the cost of exams and revision materials), a generous study allowance depending on the exam, and a network of experienced actuaries to learn from.
